Meet Huey

HFischer - WoodsI am the queer son of a Catholic mom from Mexico and a Jewish dad from Brooklyn. Originally from the Texas coast, I majored in Latin American Studies and Government from the University of Texas, where I served as President of the University Democrats. I have worked three legislative sessions at the Texas Capitol as a policy analyst and aide for progressive Democrats, including Reps. Eddie Rodriguez and Trey Martinez Fischer (no relation), and Sen. Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa. Outside of the pink dome, I have worked on well over a dozen campaigns from school board to U.S. Senate races. At 19, I was elected to the Texas Democratic Party’s Executive Committee, where I served two terms championing party reforms.

In 2016, I ran an unsuccessful bid for the Texas House of Representatives as the progressive choice in the Democratic Primary against six attorneys. In that campaign, I carried the support of the Austin Young Democrats, Farm & Ranch Freedom Alliance, Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund, Mexican American Democrats, Stonewall Democrats, and University Democrats.

Beyond Texas politics, I am passionate about Latin America and have lived in Mexico City and Santiago. I am a bike-riding, Selena-listening, dog-spotting vegetarian who occasionally tweets things (@hueyfischer).
